Meet Lloyd and Lisa: A Story of Shared Service

Meet Lloyd and Lisa, a dynamic couple from Newtown, Connecticut, who have repeatedly deployed together with NECHAMA in Western North Carolina. Lloyd, a retired software engineer, reconnected with NECHAMA after two decades, inspired by his past experience after Hurricane Katrina. He introduced Lisa, a retired special education teacher, to the organization, and she eagerly joined him. Their shared commitment to service has truly made a difference.

As a couple, they've now completed two deployments in Western North Carolina and plan to return again this summer. They find immense personal satisfaction in helping others and deeply appreciates the kindness and camaraderie of fellow volunteers. Returning for a second time strengthened their sense of community as they reconnected with local volunteers and staff.

For Lloyd and Lisa, volunteering as a couple with NECHAMA has been a fulfilling part of their retirement, offering opportunities to travel and gain new perspectives. They emphasize the importance of making a difference, noting how the experience truly puts life into perspective.

Their message to others considering volunteering is simple: "Volunteer. Make a difference. Change the world!"
