✨ VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT ✨

Meet Elly and Simcha Rosenberg, siblings from Miami whose passion for helping others brought them to volunteer with NECHAMA this summer - on both coasts!

Elly recently graduated from high school and is taking a gap year to attend an AISH Seminary program in Israel and Simcha is an upcoming high school junior. They both love sports (Simcha is on the varsity basketball team) and staying active is important to them - both physically, and in their community!

Elly and Simcha learned about NECHAMA through a family friend while they were visiting Los Angeles this summer. After volunteering for our L.A. fire mitigation project at Stephen Wise Temple, they then flew to Asheville to help out with our rebuilding efforts in Western North Carolina, where they helped repair and build homes for those in need. Elly said that, “being raised with the Jewish values of doing mitzvahs and helping out whenever we can, when we heard about NECHAMA’s focus on tikkun olam (repairing the world), it felt meaningful to actually live that value by physically helping people rebuild.” Both siblings also enjoyed learning from our team leads how to cut drywall and use power tools!

Simcha said that growing up, he and his sister were surrounded by people who were always going out of their way to help others and volunteering with NECHAMA felt similar to that. To anyone considering volunteering with us, Simcha says, “even small acts - like raking leaves - add up. It may feel like you’re doing only a little, but if more people are doing that one small thing, it becomes something much bigger. When everyone pitches in, those small actions towards repairing the word become something huge!”
