Recently released updates from the National Hurricane Center indicate that Tropical Storm Dorian will have a direct impact on Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands today. Forecasts from FEMA call for 6+ inches of rain and life-threatening flash floods along with heavy winds and storm surge. FEMA is asking residents of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands to make final preparations and find shelter now.

Dorian’s new path will take it away from other large land masses and back over open seas. Due to this update, the National Hurricane Center is forecasting a strengthening of the storm into a hurricane ahead of a potential landfall in Florida or Georgia over the holiday weekend. While this has the potential to change again over the next few days, it is imperative to prepare.

NECHAMA is closely monitoring this storm and is in contact with local partners to gauge response needs as the storm passes. Our thoughts are with the people of Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and all others in the path of this storm.

As we prepare for a potential deployment to render assistance, we need your help. Please donate today to support our response operations!
