NECHAMA – Jewish Response to Disaster is honored to be a proud grantee of the Western North Carolina Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund. We are deeply grateful for the generous and heartfelt support from the WNC community following our deployment on October 6, 2024. Thanks to two transformative grants totaling $325,000, we now will be able to fully staff and supply our long-term deployment in Buncombe and Henderson Counties in response to Hurricane Helene.

This critical funding allows NECHAMA to sustain a long-term presence in the region, ensuring that survivors receive the hands-on assistance, comfort, and hope they need to rebuild. We are inspired by the community’s trust in our work and are committed to honoring that trust through every home we repair and every life we touch.

“This generous support from the Western North Carolina Community Foundation is more than just funding—it’s a powerful affirmation of the importance of showing up for one another in times of crisis. We’re honored to walk alongside the WNC community as we help families recover and rebuild with dignity, resilience, and hope.”
— Stephan Kline, CEO, NECHAMA – Jewish Response to Disaster

NECHAMA intends to remain through at least August 31, 2025 as we continue to engage in debris and brush removal, muck and gutting, and mold mitigation before we turn to home rebuilds in the wake of the storm.

Posts authored collectively by the NECHAMA team. NECHAMA: Jewish Response to Disaster is a leading national organization in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, guided by the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam.
