Puerto Rico Earthquakes Assessment
Puerto Rico
January - February 2020
Since late December 2019, over 2,000 earthquakes struck Puerto Rico. Structural damage was widespread along the southwestern coast, and many people were afraid to return home. NECHAMA deployed a Disaster Response Team to assess the situation, partnering with the Footprint Project to provide emergency solar energy to communities in need. The team installed solar stations at six locations supporting over 300 individuals who were otherwise without access to electricity, powering refrigeration for medications, critical medical equipment, and phone charging.
