Lake Charles Response
Lake Charles, Louisiana
September - December 2020
Hurricane Laura made landfall on August 27, 2020 as a Category 4 storm with winds up to 150 mph, devastating Lake Charles, Louisiana. Just six weeks later, Hurricane Delta ripped through the same area with 115 mph winds, compounding the destruction. NECHAMA deployed to Lake Charles to assist families with tree removal, debris clearing, and mucking and gutting flood-damaged homes. The team worked alongside community members, forming lasting connections with residents like Mr. Johnny, who stayed behind during Laura to watch over his 90-year-old father.
