Baton Rouge Flood Response
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
August - November 2016
Called the worst disaster in the United States since Hurricane Sandy, the Louisiana flooding inundated tens of thousands of homes during the week of Tisha B'Av. Before the New York Times even began covering the flood, NECHAMA had staff and equipment en route from Minnesota. Over the course of the response, 300 volunteers provided more than 6,000 hours of direct service, assisting 43 families. The response extended through November 1st to meet overwhelming unmet needs.
