At the beginning of this week, the city of Wadena asked all volunteer agencies and volunteers to step aside so that only approved chain saw operators could work on trees. The city has taken over it’s own recovery and all volunteers need to go through the city to volunteer. The City of Wadena doesn’t want other agencies involved, so NECHAMA pulled out after 2 successful days.
We know many of you still would like to help these victims and so NECHAMA is helping the city spread the word to our volunteers. If you would like to help, they are now accepting individual volunteers on Thursday, June 24th, Friday, June 25th and Saturday June 26th from 8:30-6:30. Any one interested is instructed to go to the volunteer center which is located at the Pamida on Highway 71 just north of Highway 10 in Wadena. The work is clean up of trees, debris and personal affects. Food and water is provided for all volunteers.

Monday, June 21st, 2010The latest in Wadena is that NECHAMA had a great day on Sunday helping a couple of home owners to clean up their properties. It was a very successful day. Going forward, most of the work is cutting down trees, the city has restricted volunteers in and will only use approved chain saw operators through this week. NECHAMA will remain in the area only until Tuesday and will return home with our equipment. Seth Gardner will remain in the area to help the city organize a huge volunteer day for Saturday, June 26th. At which time, the city will need many volunteers to help clear away brush. As we get more information, we will pass it along.
Minnesota Storms
Thursday, June 17th, 2010Nechama is monitoring the damage from the storms in Minnesota. It appears that there is damage both north and south of the metropolitan area. The reports we have this evening are very sketchy. There is a good chance we will deploy but will not know more until morning. We have a status call at 8:00 am CST.
