NECHAMA has been working since Sunday in the Providence RI area to help the flood victims recover. We have completed a number of homes and have many more to do. We need volunteers and finacial donations to help with this deployment. If you are able to come out and work, please come for 1 day, 2 days or as long as your schedule permits. We anticipate that we will be in the area for another 2-3 weeks.
For those travelling, we do have housing and food donated by the RI JCC And The Federation of Rhode Island. They have been overwhelming generous to our NECHAMA team!

Before and after
As many of you know by following national news reports, the Northeast has been devastated by flooding. The Providence and Cranston areas of Rhode Island were hit the hardest. Damage is wide spread to homes and businesses. Numbers are still being tabulated but the latest numbers that NECHAMA has seen are the following:
*Over 200,000 people have been affected
* Over 13,000 requests to FEMA have been taken for financial assistance
* Over 300 home owners have requested emergency assistance with the United Way to help make their homes habitable again.
Dan Hoeft our Operation’s Manager just returned today from scouting the area and meeting with other Emergency Managers. Along with the Emergency Managers, The Jewish Federation has asked NECHAMA for help. Dan along with 3 others will be leaving late Wednesday or early Thursday of this week to bring our trucks and trailers to the affected areas.
NECHAMA volunteers are needed to muck starting the week of April 12th. At this time specific details of the deployment are being finalized. We will update you as soon as we have more information via e-mail. We anticipate housing to be provided by the local community. All indications appear that we will be deploying for at least four weeks.
If you are able to travel to this area, please start thinking about your schedules, if you are unable to travel, remember that financial help is appreciated also. We have estimated that this one deployment will cost NECHAMA $25,000 or greater. Your donations will help us restore hope to those who have been hit the hardest!
