Volunteers NEEDED October 3rd

Monday, September 27th, 2010

As Jews, now in the midst of celebrating the joyous festival of Sukkot, we know with great appreciation the security and yet fragile sense of having shelter. For our Minnesota neighbors to the south, however, whose homes have been recently devastated by the flooding last week, in an all too real sense they too have personally experienced the fragile nature of life when shelter is lost.

Now is our opportunity to extend to others through the act of Tikkun, a first ray of hope and well being by our volunteering to help clean their homes.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED IN SOUTHERN MN. Sunday, October 3, 2010 we will be caravanning to the Zumbro Valley Water Shed area to start cleaning homes and help the flood victims restore hope.
If you can come out with us, please R.S.V.P. to acytron@nechama.org. We do have a van that has 11 spots for those who need a ride. Once this is filled, we can all carpool together.
We will be meeting at 7:00am at the NECHAMA warehouse 7260 Washington Ave S, Eden Prairie, MN. We will return no later then 6:00p.m. The work that we will be doing is mucking out homes. This is removing debris, house hold items and furniture from basements. Many volunteers bring lunch, water and a clean set of clothing for their trip home.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Wadena, MN Tornado Update

Monday, June 21st, 2010

The latest in Wadena is that NECHAMA had a great day on Sunday helping a couple of home owners to clean up their properties. It was a very successful day. Going forward, most of the work is cutting down trees, the city has restricted volunteers in and will only use approved chain saw operators through this week. NECHAMA will remain in the area only until Tuesday and will return home with our equipment. Seth Gardner will remain in the area to help the city organize a huge volunteer day for Saturday, June 26th. At which time, the city will need many volunteers to help clear away brush. As we get more information, we will pass it along.
