Storm Update April 28

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Thank you to all who have been patiently waiting for our update. As most of you know we are trying to assess all the damage in the south and find where NECHAMA is needed the most. Dan Hoeft – Operations Coordinator has been in St. Louis, MO for the past 24 hours and found that our resources are needed by one of our partner agencies -All Hands Volunteers. If you want to volunteer in the St. Louis area, please contact Bill Driscall by going to www.hands.org. There will be more information on this site in the next 24 hours on how to volunteer in St. Louis.
Dan has been asked by the Mississippi Emergency Managers to assist in the Northeast areas of the state to get systems set up for all those counties who were affected by the storms in the last 36 hours. Dan will be joining our Mississippi partner agencies to start this process shortly.
As NECHAMA volunteers, we need you all stand-by for another few days, until these systems are in place. Once we have more information, we will let you all know where and when we need your help in these devastated areas.

Volunteers Needed-Sandbagging Friday March 18

Monday, March 14th, 2011

NECHAMA will be assisting with sandbag production in Stillwater, MN this Friday, March 18th.
We will be working from 8 a.m until 2:30 p.m. NECHAMA has a van that will be leaving from our office at 6:45 a.m. and will be returning after we finish our shift that ends at 2:30 p.m. There will be a 30 minute lunch break from 11:00 until 11:30, please bring your own lunch.
The van holds 11 people. If more than 11 people would like to volunteer, we will be looking at the potential of carpooling to Stillwater.
For those that cannot work the entire shift, we would still be grateful if you could join us by meeting us in Stillwater at any point during this period. Please contact Chad directly to work out details.
The task in Stillwater will consist of lifting 20-30 pound sandbags repeatedly over several hours. This task requires you to be able to bend and lift the sandbags over the course of the day.
If you are interested in joining NECHAMA for this great opportunity, please email costlund@nechama.org to register.
