Before and after
As many of you know by following national news reports, the Northeast has been devastated by flooding. The Providence and Cranston areas of Rhode Island were hit the hardest. Damage is wide spread to homes and businesses. Numbers are still being tabulated but the latest numbers that NECHAMA has seen are the following:
*Over 200,000 people have been affected
* Over 13,000 requests to FEMA have been taken for financial assistance
* Over 300 home owners have requested emergency assistance with the United Way to help make their homes habitable again.
Dan Hoeft our Operation’s Manager just returned today from scouting the area and meeting with other Emergency Managers. Along with the Emergency Managers, The Jewish Federation has asked NECHAMA for help. Dan along with 3 others will be leaving late Wednesday or early Thursday of this week to bring our trucks and trailers to the affected areas.
NECHAMA volunteers are needed to muck starting the week of April 12th. At this time specific details of the deployment are being finalized. We will update you as soon as we have more information via e-mail. We anticipate housing to be provided by the local community. All indications appear that we will be deploying for at least four weeks.
If you are able to travel to this area, please start thinking about your schedules, if you are unable to travel, remember that financial help is appreciated also. We have estimated that this one deployment will cost NECHAMA $25,000 or greater. Your donations will help us restore hope to those who have been hit the hardest!

We want to express our extreme gratitude for the assistance we recieved from your organization. We have been struggling with the results of the flooding here in RI for the past three weeks and were doubtful that we would ever recover. Thanks to the team you deployed to help us we are once again hopeful.
I hestitated to write this because I am sure I will not be able to find the words to appropriately express our appreciation for the help you provided us yesterday. The entire crew, including Dan, Amy, and the folks from the Jewish Federation of Rhode Island, were professional, upbeat and, most importantly, compassionate. Losing 22 years of treasures, most of which now sits in the mountain of black plastic bags in our front yard awaiting the town trash pickup, has been traumatic. While we obviously appreciate the assistance with the daunting, and for us impossible, physical task, it was their genuine kindness and concern that we will always remember.
Thanks are not enough, but they will have to do for now. We both look forward to returning the favor in the future by sharing my experiences while helping other disaster victims.
