Do you have to be Jewish to be a volunteer with NECHAMA?
No. NECHAMA has a large number of non-Jewish volunteers. We also work along side other “faith based” volunteer agencies.
Return to topWhere does NECHAMA get its funding?
NECHAMA has no revenue source. While we receive some grant money, the vast majority of our funding comes from individual people just like you. If you are interested in making an on-line donation, click here.
Return to topHow does NECHAMA decide to deploy?
NECHAMA scans the news for communities impacted by disasters and is connected with other disaster response organizations and government emergency managers around the country. When it looks like assistance is needed, NECHAMA deploys an advance team to see how we can help.
Return to topDo you need to have special skills to be a volunteer?
No. NECHAMA provides all the necessary equipment, on site training, and a skilled supervisor to ensure our work is both safe and efficient.
Return to topIs there an age requirement?
NECHAMA will often accept young adults from B’nai Mitzvah age 13 through 17 with parent supervision. However, please check with the NECHAMA office prior to a deployment because other’s rules may supersede ours. There is no upper age limit as long as you are physically able to perform the work.
Return to topWhat is my cost to volunteer?
There is no fee for participating in NECHAMA activities. However, volunteers are responsible for most of their costs while on deployment.
Return to topWho does NECHAMA help?
NECHAMA strives to help those least able to help themselves, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion or any factors other then need.
